Education Certification Committee

Objectives of the Education Certification Committee

The Australian Welding Institute (AWI) Education and Certification committee prime objectives are:

  • To undertake, arrange and promote education, training, qualification and certification for the benefit of members of the Institute and the welding industry
  • To work closely with Australian TAFE bodies, Registered Training Organisations (RTO’s), related government agencies and departments to enhance National Training and educational agendas.

Stakeholders

To do this the AWI has identified that the key to this succeeding is the need to form an Education and Certification Working Group (to be known as the E&C) that involves key stakeholders. These are defined as:

  • Registered Training Organisations
  • Manufacturing Skills Australia
  • Industry
  • Australian Welding Institute

Aims of the Education Certification Committee

The more detailed aims of the Education Certification Committee are as follows:

  1. To identify potential qualification and certification opportunities for the benefit of stakeholders and to implement these opportunities
  2. To align a qualification and certification system to the national training agenda and other nationally and internationally recognised certification bodies where they benefit stakeholders
  3. To offer independent administration of a Australian national qualification and certification system, broadly based around:
    • AS/NZS 1796 Welders certification
    • AS/NZS 1796 Welding Supervision
    • AS/NZS 2214 Welding Supervision
    • AS/NZS 4481 Welding Fabrication Inspection
  4. Periodically review the system for conformance and potential improvements
  5. To offer independent administration of a Australian national certification system, broadly based around AS/NZS ISO 3834 Quality requirements for fusion welding of metallic materials
