AWI Streamlines the Certification for Welding Inspectors
The AWI has successfully rolled out the first phase of the it’s ‘Welding Inspection’ program to compliment its successful welding supervision and welders certification scheme.
The main focus for the education committee and key stakholders was to remove the ambiguity and confusion around the pathway to certification.
A model for a clear simple pathway went out to RTO’s in all states and territories in Australia for comment to ensure we got it right.
The pathway diagram on the next page is the model that was agreed on and that will be used moving forward. The intention is to introduce a senior inspection qualification later in the year. It will be a true ‘Senior’ Inspection with a focus on leading inspection teams, intimate knowledge of QA/QC requiremnets, specifications and codes.
The industry has been longing for the return of a practical, relevant qualification. Wait no longer, it is here.
The AWI has had its papers written and validated by industry experts that have workshop experience in the relevant disciplines. The feedback from the pilot of the running of the first round of examinations are
‘they are based much more on what we need to know in tasks we perform as welding inspectors’ and ‘it was a very detailed exam but based on practical application of being a welding inspector’.
If you would like to sit your examinations with the AWI, contact your local AWI representative (details on back cover) or email admin@welding.org.au.
‘don’t expect it to be easy, AWI is raising the bar on these important industry qualifications’.

- 24/25 March
