What testing (if any) is required for a pre-qualified weld procedure under section 2 of AS3992?
All preparations, consumable and parameters etc are pre-qualified- Single V butt on 6mm low carbon pipe. GTAW.
AS1554.1 asks for a macro, what does AS3992 require?
Cheers

What limitations does a pre-qualified weld procedure have on the thickness range? Is it limited to the actual thickness used?
AS3992, Clause 2.1 (c) …..”Table 5.4 which does not apply to pre-qualified procedures”;
AS3992, Table 5.4 – Range of thickness qualified.
Cheers

IG,
It is listed in Essential Variables – 3mm to 13 mm

IG,
Nothing required other than a welder must be able to pass qualification to that WPS,

The most limiting factor I have found is the positions qualified, Fundamental welding positions as per fig 5.1, as far as pipe butts go is only 1G rotated & 2G, whitch is quite limiting really.
Apart from that pre-qualified proceudures would be great and require no additional testing, use the recomended parameters write a WPS and bam, your done.
Welder qualification is a must aswell mind you.
