Hi Graham,
I am a recruiter from Sydney (with a trade background) and I have a number of vacancies available for high quality Welders. I would even confidently say that there is plenty of work, particularly in Western Sydney for experienced and ticketed Welders. I have two clients at the moment that I am engaged for, one looking for a ticketed (permanent position) and one for an 8G MIG ticketed Welder (contract position). Excellent rates and conditions apply to both. If anyone out there is interested please call me 02 8883 4450 or send your resume to craig@constructioncareers.com.au. Thank you.

much work for people with 1796-7 up there these days ?
Not sure about other locations, however in Latrobe Valley, Victoria, around 95% of the welding in power stations and paper mills (tube welding) is all TIG.
A pressure welder is a lot more likely to be employed with this ticket.
