    Hi lads,
    Great website
I am from the UK and new to Australian specs and have a small query!
I came across a clause regarding 1554.1, page 19 – 4.1.2 Butt Welds , now some people are saying that this clause allows you to use any of these pre-qualified weld preparations for a single qualified WPS. For instance if you have a single V weld preparation WPS you can then weld a single bevel preparation or a single bevel T-Joint weld! I do not think this is correct as the joint preparation has changed and would require requalification of a new WPS with the correct weld preparation!
I hope you can shed some light on this.

    Hi Tigger
the standard is ambiguous when it comes to what is qualified
    but 4.1.2 covers the following
    – single sided covers double sided
    – if you use pre qualed joints they cover the other positions listed for that joint as long as angle of prep is the same
    – Appendix E pre qualed joints, lists inline, corner and T butts (it is generally considered one covers the other) so inline covers a T as this is not covered in the essential variables listed in Table 4.11
    – it is not clear in this version but will be in the next that V does not cover a bevel

    I hope this helps

    Hi Flash,
Thanks for clearing that up for me,
